Wood Buffalo sightseeing patrol Sweetgrass Patrol
You can travel through northern Canadas wilderness and experience the highlights of Wood Buffalo National Park. Travel is from Fort Smith for optimum experience over your short available time.
The sweetgrass Patrol allows you to see the best of the Slave River, Peace River and Peace Athabasca Delta, especially the Sweetgrass Prairies.
Day 1
Fort Smith Rocky Point 150 km.
Travel by vehicle is provided over the portage to Fort Fitzgerald at the head of the rapids on the Slave River. We head up the Slave River past Caribou Island, Hay Camp and on to the confluence of the Rocher and Peace River. Traveling up the Peace River we arrive at old Historic Rocky Point, the highest point in the lower delta. Here we spend the night in a tent camp.
Day 2
Rocky Point Sweetgrass Landing 35 km.
(by way of the Peace River and hiking into Sweetgrass Prairie 10 km.)
One day is spent hiking and sightseeing on Sweetgrass Prairie while the guide helper will set up camp at Sweetgrass Landing for our evening return.
Day 3
Sweetgrass Landing Fort Fitzgerald 150 km.
Travel today will be by way of the Peace River and Slave River with stops for observing wildlife and for lunch stops. This being a scenic trip will give many opportunities for photos.
Included in Price:
- Transportation to Fort Fitzgerald.
- Visit to rapids on the Slave River.
- All equipment, lifejackets and food for all meals.
Not Included:
- Sleeping bag and mattress or mat.
- Tobacco products.
- Alcoholic drinks or gifts.
- Sunscreen and insect repellent.
- Rubber boots.
Note: Guests are encouraged to limit the amount of luggage they take on the trip. Personal medicines and sunglasses are recommended.
